In a statement released on May 9, Yvonne Nelson formally informed the Ghana Police Service of the impending demonstration.

The announcement included details for the vigil, which is set to happen on May 25 in Revolution Square. It will start at 8:30 am and end at midnight.

The statement expressed dissatisfaction with the unsatisfactory state of the power supply and mentioned plans to provide the president proof of the crippling effects of “dumsor.”

This project comes after the well-known actress issued a challenge to Ghanaians to unite with her in opposing the recent, unpredictable power outages.

The Regional Commander has invited the conveners—Yvonne Nelson, Selorm Dramani Dzramado, and Henry Osei Akoto—to a meeting in response to a letter sent to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) on May 9.

The purpose of the meeting, scheduled for Wednesday, May 15, 2024 at 1400 hours, is to talk about the specifics of the planned demonstration.

Concerns and rules for the planned demonstration—which aims to increase public awareness of the detrimental consequences of Ghana’s ongoing power supply challenges—will also be discussed at the conference.
