Hollywood, CA — Robert Englund, the legendary actor who brought terror to millions as Freddy Krueger in A Nightmare on Elm Street, was honored Friday with a coveted star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame — marking a major moment in entertainment history and the film industry.

The Glendale-born actor’s star was placed in front of Larry Edmunds Bookshop, a well-known Los Angeles film and theater bookstore that holds personal significance for Englund. “I wouldn’t be here without the fans,” he said during the ceremony. “Thanks for supporting me, thanks for going down rabbit holes on the internet (and) finding my old movies.”

Englund’s career spans decades of horror classics and television work, making him one of the most recognized names in cinematic horror. His portrayal of Freddy Krueger first seen in the 1984 slasher A Nightmare on Elm Street remains one of Hollywood’s most enduring and profitable horror franchises, continuing to generate strong revenue across streaming platforms and global media licensing.

Film director Eli Roth and actress Heather Langenkamp, who worked alongside Englund in past productions, joined the celebration. “Robert is not just a horror royalty. He’s truly a gem in every way,” Roth said. “(He’s) a cinematic and theatrical treasure.” Langenkamp, who played Nancy Thompson opposite Englund, recalled his chilling performance. “It was gravely. It was sneering. There was a little spittle involved. It set your teeth on edge,” she said.

Born in Glendale, Englund began acting at 12 and later trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts at Oakland University near Detroit. After years performing on stage along the East Coast, he moved back to California, where he landed early roles in Buster and Billie, Stay Hungry, and Big Wednesday.

His first breakout role came with NBC’s 1983 miniseries V, playing Willie, a freedom fighter. Soon after, Englund auditioned for Wes Craven’s A Nightmare on Elm Street, a casting decision that would forever shape horror film history.

Englund went on to play Freddy Krueger in all seven main installments of the franchise, as well as in Freddy vs. Jason. His contribution to film earned him The Life Career Award from the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Films, an honor recognizing his influence on generations of filmmakers and fans.
