Russia puts Hungary on ‘unfriendly countries’ list, says envoy

In an interview with the Russian propaganda news agency RIA Novosti on March 30, the Russian Ambassador to Hungary, Evgeny Stanislavov, announced that Hungary has been added to Russia’s list of “unfriendly countries” due to its compliance with EU sanctions against Russia.

According to Stanislavov, Hungary’s adherence to these sanctions has forced the Kremlin to classify it as an unfriendly country.

Despite this classification, Stanislavov noted that Hungary maintains a pragmatic position and is not likely to abandon it, even under pressure from its allies in the European Union and NATO.

This move by Russia follows the inclusion of Greece, Denmark, Slovenia, Croatia, and Slovakia on the list of “unfriendly countries” on July 22, 2022.

Furthermore, Russia expanded the list in March 2022 to include all EU countries, the United States, the United Kingdom, Japan, and around 20 other countries at the behest of its dictator, Vladimir Putin.

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has made several pro-Russian statements regarding Russia’s war against Ukraine, including claiming that Hungary borders Russia in the east, despite not sharing a border with any Russian territory.

Orbán has also supported China’s controversial “peace plan,” which has faced criticism from Ukraine, the United States, and the European Union.
