Zambia in Mourning: Seven Footballers Killed in Tragic Bus Crash

Zambia is in mourning following a devastating bus crash that claimed the lives of seven players from Chavuma Town Council FC.

The tragic accident occurred on Saturday while the team was en route to a third-tier league match in the northwest region of the country.

The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) expressed its “deep shock” at the incident, with FAZ president Andrew Kamanga stating, “We are in touch with the football, civil, and law enforcement authorities in the province to furnish us with full details.”

The organization is working closely with local authorities to gather more information about the crash.

In addition to the fatalities, twelve other individuals were injured, with five of them being transported to the capital, Lusaka, for urgent medical care.

The identities of those killed and injured have not yet been released.

Patrice Motsepe, president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), extended his condolences, saying, “I convey my personal and CAF’s deepest condolences.

May God comfort and console the family, friends, and colleagues of the deceased.” He also expressed hopes for a swift recovery for those injured.

Artur de Almeida e Silva, president of the Southern Africa regional football associations, described the loss as “truly heartbreaking.”
