According to an announcement by Guinness World Records on March 20, 2023, Canadian music star The Weeknd, whose real name is Abel Makkonen Tesfaye, has been officially declared the most popular artist in the world. The organization stated that “No one else comes close.”

As of March 24, 2023, The Weeknd has become the first artist to surpass 100 million monthly listeners on Spotify, with 112 million listeners. This is a record that he exclusively holds, with Miley Cyrus coming in a distant second at 83 million monthly listeners.

In addition, The Weeknd holds the record for the most streamed song on Spotify with his hit single “Blinding Lights,” which was released in November 2019 and has garnered 3.4 billion streams.

The 33-year-old popstar has achieved massive digital success worldwide, with his hit single “Die For You” featuring Ariana Grande going viral on TikTok.

In 2021, The Weeknd, who was dubbed the “King of Streams” by Guinness World Records, headlined Super Bowl 55 after boycotting the Grammys due to his album “After Hours” not receiving any nominations.
