Thomas Tuchel Speaking to BT Sport after the game.Thomas Tuchel: We’re not tough enough to win these matches away

We started well in all the games almost but obviously we are struggling with our focus and consistency in matches.”

“We struggled to find answers and find the way back if things don’t go in our direction. Things did go in our direction today but then we struggled after the equaliser.”

“I don’t know if concern is the right word. I absolutely dislike losing.” “It is the second time this season and I don’t think it takes a lot to beat us and this I don’t like.”

“We try to win matches and the way we do this is something we need to understand as fast as possible. I also don’t understand why we are in this situation with injuries to all midfield.”

“I think in the first 20 minutes we created half chances but struggled to score. That is also not brand new for us and that doesn’t necessarily have the consequence you can lose matches, you can win 1-0.

Speaking to the press after Chelsea’s 2-1 against Southampton at St Mary’s,

Chelsea boss reacted to question about the performance.

He said: “Obviously we’re not tough enough at the moment to win these matches away.”

“One set-piece again. One sloppy defending again. Then we are off balance.” “We were not tough enough as a team to react or push it over the line for us.”

Asked if he need a focal point?

It’s not a question of striker or no striker. No focal point. As a team we’re not strong enough at the moment” he said.

He was then ask if he need new signings.

What it reminded me of was Juventus last season. We played a fantastic match last season but then we had Chilly out for eight months and Kante out for three months” He said.

“We had a fantastic match against Tottenham but then our key player is out for six weeks. Conor is out. Ruben has injury. Mateo Kovacic has an injury from pre-season and Reece wasn’t here today.”

“With out demands, it’s simply like that. It would be more important if these key players are missing, we need to show a different mentality.”

“I can’t dream about if we have everybody back. We have what we have on the training pitch. This is what we have a the moment” He added.

Thomas Tuchel Speaking about his side’s Poor defending.

Soft, soft, soft defending. There is no need to give shots away. Just toughen up as a team and show a different mentality.

Hasenhuttl praised the accomplishment of his team, who are currently seventh in the Premier League.

He stated: “We have this DNA, we want to do this against every opponent and we never stop running, this is a way you can hurt big teams when you do it committed – it was not so clear after Saturday how fresh we were tonight, but we can show this.”

Tuchel suffers a setback as a result of the loss. The last hours of the transfer market will be busy for Chelsea, but a new player won’t fix all the problems.
