In a controversial Truth Social post on Friday, President Trump took another jab at global pop icon Taylor Swift, suggesting her fame has faded since his public criticism last year.
“Has anyone noticed that, since I said ‘I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT,’ she’s no longer ‘HOT?’” the president wrote mid-flight while returning from a major diplomatic visit to the Middle East. His remarks have once again stirred political and celebrity circles, highlighting the ongoing tension between the former president and the music superstar.
The animosity between Donald Trump and Taylor Swift isn’t new. The president first targeted Swift last fall, shortly after she endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris during the 2024 election campaign. The timing of his “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!” post was swiftly overshadowed by a second assassination attempt against him, diverting the national spotlight.
A White House official defended Trump’s comments, saying, “As a business and entertainment mogul, President Trump is highly qualified to comment on the rise and fall of various celebrities.”
Although Swift’s “Eras Tour” was in full swing at the time of Trump’s initial outburst, her public presence has since decreased. With her boyfriend Travis Kelce’s NFL season also concluded, she’s been seen less frequently in the media, aside from a brief appearance at a Mother’s Day brunch with the Kelce family.
Not stopping at Swift, Trump also targeted music legend Bruce Springsteen on Friday. Labeling him “Highly Overrated” and mocking his appearance, Trump responded just days after Springsteen had denounced the Trump administration as “treasonous” during a U.K. concert.
These celebrity critiques coincided with the president’s return from a four-day diplomatic tour across Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates.
The trip saw him engage with Arab leaders, ease sanctions on Syria, and secure fresh economic partnerships in the Gulf. Meanwhile, reports surfaced that Qatar gifted Trump a Boeing 747, a gesture that drew ethical scrutiny, which the president firmly brushed off.
Taylor Swift’s political involvement has been rare but impactful. She publicly opposed Trump’s re-election bid in 2020 and again stood against him in 2024 by endorsing Harris. Swift explained that part of her support for Harris stemmed from Trump sharing manipulated images that falsely suggested she backed him.
In her endorsement, Swift praised Harris as a “steady-handed, gifted leader” and stressed her hope for a calmer, more united America. Her political voice was also heard in 2018 when she backed Democrat Phil Bredesen in Tennessee’s Senate race, famously comparing his opponent Marsha Blackburn to “Trump in a wig.”
Despite criticizing her, Trump acknowledged Swift’s talents in a 2023 Variety interview but expressed skepticism about her liberal views. “She’s legitimately liberal? It surprises me that a country star can be successful being liberal,” he remarked.
