Ukraine Storing US-Supplied Weapons At Nuclear Power Stations: Russia

By Stermy 2 Min Read

On Monday, Russia’s foreign intelligence service (SVR) accused Ukraine of keeping Western-supplied weapons at nuclear power plants around the nation.

There was no proof presented, and Reuters was unable to corroborate the assertions.

The SVR stated in a statement that HIMARS rocket launchers, air defense systems, and artillery ammunition provided by the United States had been sent to the Rivne nuclear power facility in northwest Ukraine.

“The Ukrainian armed forces are storing weapons and ammunition provided by the West on the territory of nuclear power plants,” it said, adding that an arms shipment to the Rivne power station had taken place in the last week of December.

Since the beginning of the conflict, Ukraine’s several nuclear power plants have been the center of attention. Russian forces seized the defunct Chornobyl nuclear power station less than 48 hours after soldiers arrived, and they also took control of the largest nuclear power plant in Europe, Zaporizhzhia, early in the battle.

Both Kiev and Moscow have accused each other of shelling Zaporizhzhia, and Ukraine claims Russia is utilizing the area as a de facto weapons storage facility.

The UN nuclear watchdog has voiced severe alarm about the strikes near the facility, warning of the potential of a catastrophic disaster.
