Ghanaian songstress, Wendy Asiamah Addo better known as Wendy Shay a Rufftown Records signee has disclosed in a new interview that some people who win music awards here in Ghana do not deserve the win and also the schemes are based on favouritism.
The singer made this wild revelation on Zylofon FM’s Showbiz Agenda entertainment show hosted by Sammy Flex.
In the radio interview, she was asked questions about the just ended VGMA 2021, why she never won any awards nor put in much works to campaign for her win, and also what she thinks about the entire music awarding system in the country (Ghana).
According to Wendy, in Ghana music there are two types of artistes, an artiste who is in the industry and an Industry artiste.
Explaining what she said earlier further, The Rufftown Records singed singer tagged herself as an artiste in the industry because she has to work hard always to reach her goals, adding that the industry artistes are artistes who are favourites in the music industry claiming they are loved and pampered by the industry.
The Uber Driver singer, was nominated in two categories at the just ended 2021 VGMA Awards she earned nominations for the “Afrobeats/Afropop Song of the Year” and “Afrobeats/Afropop Artiste of the Year” but in the end won nothing.
Wendy who claimed the Ghana Music Awards Scheme was based on favouritism also explained why she decided not to get too involved in the voting and promoting herself to win the VGMA awards this year.
According to her, she did not want to get her fans involved and that she did not want them to waste their money in voting for her because she knew she was not going to win, since the scheme is based on favouritism, awards are giving to people who don’t deserve it.
“I didn’t ask my fans to vote because I knew I won’t win even if they voted. I didn’t campaign for votes out of fear but I was pushing my album. My mind was elsewhere.” she explained.
When asked by the host, Sammy Flex on what she thinks about award schemes like, VGMAs and 3Music Awards, Wehndy Shay said they are all just the same by comparing them to political parties; NDC and NPP.
“I think VGMA and 3Music Awards are the same. They are both doing very well. They are like NPP and NDC.” she added.
