Darvin Flores Caballeros, who is originally from Virginia, was taken into custody in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida, on February 20, 2025, after a “felony stop” by authorities.

The arrest came after Caballeros fled Virginia following the alleged assault on February 12.

According to the Walton County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO), Caballeros faces multiple charges, including malicious wounding, strangulation, child endangerment, assault and battery, and petit larceny.

He also has active warrants for his arrest in Fairfax County, Virginia, where the attack allegedly occurred.

The incident began with a violent altercation between Caballeros and the mother of his child. The suspect reportedly assaulted and strangled the woman before fleeing the scene, leaving the infant behind.

A “good Samaritan” later discovered the baby, who had been abandoned in a pile of snow, while the mother was hospitalized with serious injuries.

After more than a week on the run, Caballeros was apprehended by authorities in Florida. WCSO deputies conducted the felony stop and arrested him while he was in a vehicle.

Photos shared by the office show the suspect on the ground, surrounded by law enforcement, while the driver of the vehicle raised their hands in surrender.

As of February 22, 2025, Caballeros remains in custody at the Walton County Jail, awaiting extradition back to Virginia.

His charges, which are related to aggravated battery, aggravated child abuse, and false imprisonment, reflect the severity of the crimes in both Virginia and Florida.

Caballeros’ bond information is currently unavailable, and it’s unclear if he has retained legal counsel.

The case has drawn significant attention, particularly due to the disturbing nature of the crime and the violent abandonment of the newborn child.

Authorities are continuing their investigation, and it remains to be seen what further charges might arise from the incident.
