Jen Psaki had rejected to travel to Europe with US President Joe Biden after members of her family were ill with the virus, and she said on Sunday that she had tested positive for COVID-19.

Jen Psaki, the White House press secretary, said on Sunday that she had tested positive despite testing negative many times earlier in the week.

On Tuesday, Psaki, 42, said she and the president sat outside more than 6 feet (1.8 m) apart and donned masks, despite the fact that she was vaccinated and feeling moderate symptoms. According to a source familiar with the situation, Biden tested negative for COVID-19 on Saturday.

Psaki stated, “I am sharing today’s positive test out of an abundance of transparency.”

Since taking office in January, Psaki, the White House’s chief spokesman, has been the most high-profile member of the Biden administration to contract COVID-19.

Because a member of her household tested positive for the illness, Psaki chose not to accompany Biden on his trip to Rome and Glasgow this week.
She’s been in isolation since Wednesday and says she tested negative several times until testing positive on Sunday.

Following a negative fast COVID-19 test, Psaki expected to return to work at the end of a 10-day quarantine period, according to the statement.

With millions of Americans refusing to receive life-saving immunizations, the White House has been fighting to bring the pandemic under control.

Biden, who is completely vaccinated, is tested randomly every two weeks as surveillance, according to Psaki, at the request of his physician, Kevin O’Connor. Biden, 78, has had three COVID-19 shots from Pfizer Inc./BioNTech, including a booster last month.

The White House has declined to disclose the number of breakthrough COVID-19 infections that have occurred among staff.
