The defense attorney representing rapper Young Thug in the YSL RICO trial suggests that the proceedings may extend beyond three years.

The ongoing YSL RICO trial in Georgia, has persisted for nearly four months, with no sign of an ending in sight

On Tueday (March 19, 2024), the attorney for Young Thug codefendant Deamonte Kendrick filed a court motion requesting a “detailed explanation of the expected testimony of each respective witness and an explanation of how that witness’ proposed testimony is not cumulative of other witnesses nor causing undue delay nor a waste of time…,”

Citing the state’s roster of 400 potential witnesses, a significant reduction from an initial 700, the motion underscores the need for efficiency. To date, only 40 witnesses have taken the stand.

At this rate, the proceedings are projected to wrap up by 2027. This, per the defense, is a violation of the Sixth Amendment, which guarantees a defendant’s right to a speedy trial.

Earlier this week, the defense called prosecution witness Adrian Bean for cross-examination, during which he candidly admitted to being high in court.

“I’m so high right now, y’all. I’m ’bout to go to sleep on y’all ass,” he said. “I ain’t gon’ tell a lie.”

Lead prosecutor DA Adriane Love then offered him a bottle of water, while Thug’s attorney Brian Steel asked if Bean needed a moment to get it together. Despite the condition he was in, he opted to keep going.

“Let’s keep the ball rolling,” Bean responded.

Prior to that, legal reporter Meghann Cuniff revealed that two attorneys got into an argument in court last week that got so tense that a sheriff’s deputy had to get involved.

In a clip from day 42 of the trial, the judge told the pair to “take it down a notch” as they continued arguing, after which he singled out Adriane Love.

“I know you’re being an advocate,” Judge Glanville said. “At some point, stop. Just stop. I made my ruling, good, bad, or indifferent to you. You’re gonna win some you’re gonna lose some.”

Later, when Thug’s lawyer referenced “the rants of DA Love,” the judge also reprimanded the room for laughing and said: “I didn’t ask anyone to laugh in the gallery. This is a courtroom. Not some entertainment forum for you.”
