In a dramatic turn of events, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was asked to leave the White House on Friday, February 28, following a heated meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump.
The encounter, which quickly turned contentious, exposed deep disagreements over how to end the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict.
The meeting in the Oval Office, which was witnessed by reporters, started with high hopes for resolving the war. However, tensions quickly escalated.
Trump, pushing for an immediate ceasefire, urged Zelenskyy to stop the fighting and save lives.
“If you can get a ceasefire right now, I tell you, you take it,” Trump told the Ukrainian leader, emphasizing his desire to minimize U.S. financial involvement and reduce the death toll.
But Zelenskyy, holding firm to Ukraine’s position, countered that a ceasefire would be meaningless without strong U.S. security guarantees to deter future Russian aggression.

His refusal to agree with Trump’s approach led to an emotionally charged exchange.
“You’re gambling with the lives of millions of people. You’re gambling with World War III,” Trump shouted, clearly frustrated. Vice President JD Vance also joined in, accusing Zelenskyy of ingratitude.
This only further inflamed the situation, with Trump interrupting Zelenskyy’s responses.
The confrontation reached its peak when Trump declared that Zelenskyy was “not ready for peace,” claiming the Ukrainian leader saw U.S. involvement as a bargaining chip rather than a solution.
“You can come back when you’re ready for peace,” Trump said, signaling the end of the meeting. Zelenskyy’s resistance to making concessions to Russia, especially on NATO membership or territorial compromises, contributed to the fallout.
After the clash, Trump issued a statement, expressing disappointment in Zelenskyy’s stance.
The encounter marked a significant shift in U.S.-Ukraine relations, leaving future cooperation uncertain. The intense rhetoric from both sides indicates that the road to peace remains fraught with challenges.
