Harris says she is different from Biden because 'I offer a new generation of leadership'

Vice President Kamala Harris has positioned herself as a candidate for change, stressing generational leadership in her presidential campaign against Republican Donald Trump.

In a Friday interview, Harris made it clear that her approach is different from President Joe Biden’s administration, citing new ideas for addressing 21st-century concerns.

In her first solo television interview since becoming the Democratic nominee, Harris criticized the division she feels Donald Trump promotes. She stated that the country is “exhausted” by Trump’s leadership style, which she described as creating hatred and division.

During an interview with Brian Taff of WPVI-TV in Philadelphia, Harris emphasized that her campaign is focused on new ideas for the future. When asked how she differed from President Biden, Harris stated, ” “Well, I’m obviously not Joe Biden,” emphasizing that she represents a “new generation of leadership.”

Harris highlighted her proposal to increase the child tax credit to $6,000 for young families throughout the child’s first year of life, describing it as essential for modern family support.

She also stated that she is focused on preparing the country for the next 10 to 20 years through the introduction of new policies targeted at improving societal capacities while addressing 21st-century issues.

Harris additionally addressed her opinion on gun regulation, admitting that she owns a gun but favors a ban on assault-style rifles. She pointed out that her approach is consistent with the Second Amendment and that her goal is not to seize anyone’s firearms, but rather to protect public safety.

When asked how she would connect with Trump voters, Harris encouraged togetherness. She went on, “I believe that most Americans want a leader who brings us together, not one who encourages us to point fingers at each other.” Harris underscored that her message is about healing divisions, bringing people together, and putting the country first.

Harris also mentioned that her candidacy had received support from several Republican figures, including former Vice President Dick Cheney and his daughter, Liz Cheney. She stated that this indicates the rising unhappiness with Trump’s controversial leadership style.

As the campaign season progresses, Harris acknowledged the criticism she has received for avoiding media interviews, a subject frequently brought up by Trump’s running mate, Sen. JD Vance.

Harris has recently committed to expanding her local media presence, including an upcoming appearance with members of the National Association of Black Journalists in Philadelphia.

On a personal note, Harris shared insights into her life outside politics, revealing her love for family dinners and cooking. She mentioned that one of her closest friends has been by her side since kindergarten, adding a relatable touch to her campaign narrative.
