President Joe Biden has taken a direct shot at Elon Musk, criticizing the Tesla CEO for hypocrisy regarding immigration laws following reports that Musk worked illegally in the United States.
During a campaign event in Pittsburgh, Biden highlighted Musk’s alleged past violations, stating, “That wealthiest man in the world became an illegal worker here.
No, I’m serious. He was supposed to be in school when he came on a student visa. He wasn’t in school. He was violating the law. And he’s talking about all these illegals coming our way?”

The controversy stems from a recent article in The Washington Post, which claims that Musk, who immigrated from South Africa, arrived in the U.S. in 1995 to attend a graduate program at Stanford University but never actually enrolled.

Instead, he reportedly focused on launching his startup.
The article alleges that during this time, Musk was working illegally, as he was not enrolled in school as required by his student visa.
In response to Biden’s comments, Musk took to X (formerly Twitter) to defend himself, stating, “I was in fact allowed to work in the U.S.”
He further accused Biden of lying, calling him a “puppet.” The billionaire’s legal troubles around his immigration status have been a point of concern for investors in his company, Zip2, who reportedly feared he could be deported.
The Post also referenced a 2005 email from Musk in which he acknowledged lacking proper authorization to be in the U.S. when he began his work with Zip2.
In the email, he mentioned applying to Stanford in hopes of securing legal status.

Today, Musk stands as the world’s richest man and a significant donor to Republican campaigns, having committed over $70 million to support GOP candidates, including Donald Trump, as the upcoming elections draw near.
