Apple is set to transform its iPhone experience with a free software update that introduces artificial intelligence features to its iPhone 16 lineup.
This update, part of the iOS 18 operating system, will roll out on Monday and comes just over a month after the launch of the iPhone 16 models, priced between $800 and $1,200.
While the latest iPhone models boast a special chip to support these AI advancements, the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max also possess the necessary hardware to benefit from the update.
Current iPad and Mac users will also have access to the new AI features, although international users will have to wait until next year for the update.
The centerpiece of this AI integration is an enhanced version of Siri, which Apple promises will become a more conversational and capable assistant.
Users will see a glowing light encircling the screen while Siri processes requests, making for a more interactive experience.
Although Siri’s capabilities are set to expand, full app integration is expected to come in a later update.
The new software will also include tools for writing and proofreading, summarizing documents, and advanced photo editing features that make it easier to locate and modify images.
Future updates are anticipated to allow users to create custom emojis and other imaginative graphics. Notably, Apple aims to incorporate OpenAI’s ChatGPT for more robust interactions down the line.
In a bid to differentiate itself from competitors like Samsung and Google, Apple is branding its AI technology as “Apple Intelligence,” with a strong emphasis on user privacy.

The company claims that many features will operate directly on devices, minimizing the need for data to be processed remotely.
This push into AI comes as Apple’s stock has surged by 18% since announcing its AI strategy in June, increasing the company’s market value by approximately $500 billion.
As the holiday season approaches, the demand for new iPhone models is expected to soar, particularly among users looking to upgrade for the latest technology.
Apple’s quarterly financial report, scheduled for Thursday, will provide insights into how the iPhone 16 is performing, especially during the initial sales period.
Analyst Nabila Popal from IDC notes that the gradual rollout of AI features may encourage owners of older models to invest in the new devices to “future-proof” their purchases.
Additionally, Apple announced that select AirPods can now function as hearing aids, offering a significant benefit to millions of Americans who experience hearing loss.
