Elon Musk’s estranged transgender daughter, Vivian Jenna Wilson, has announced plans to leave the United States following Donald Trump’s historic win in the 2024 presidential election.
The 20-year-old, who has been publicly critical of her father, made the decision after Trump’s re-election, citing fears about the future of trans rights under his administration.
Wilson, who cut ties with Musk in 2022 and filed a petition to legally change her gender and drop his surname, shared her feelings on social media.
“I’ve thought this for a while, but yesterday confirmed it for me,” she wrote on Threads after Trump’s victory. “I don’t see my future being in the United States.”

Her decision to leave the country comes amid concerns over Trump’s stance on LGBTQ+ issues. Despite Trump’s assurances that he would not focus on anti-trans regulations, Wilson believes the underlying political climate will not change.
“Even if he’s only in office for 4 years, even if the anti-trans regulations magically don’t happen, the people who willingly voted this in are not going anywhere anytime soon,” she added.
Vivian is one of six children Musk shares with his first wife, Justine Wilson. She has previously accused her father of being an unsupportive and absent parent during her transition.

Musk’s outspoken support for Trump and his political views have only deepened the divide between father and daughter, making it clear that their relationship remains strained.
Wilson’s statement reflects broader concerns among some in the transgender community, who fear that a second Trump term could lead to regressive policies on LGBTQ+ rights.
