A disturbing and tragic incident occurred on November 30, 2024, when 30-year-old Kristopher Samaroo was allegedly beaten to death by his landlord, Omar Lamoni, during a dispute over unpaid rent in their Bronx apartment.
Samaroo’s wife, Brittney Shears, has revealed that the couple had been making partial rent payments due to ongoing issues with the apartment’s hot water supply, which they claim the landlord had been cutting off.
Lamoni, 43, reportedly showed up at the apartment to collect rent, which led to a violent confrontation. Shears alleges that Lamoni attacked Samaroo with a metal bat during the argument.

Police later arrested Lamoni and 39-year-old Edwin Nina in connection with the incident. Nina faces charges of second-degree assault and criminal possession of a weapon.

Security footage from the scene, reviewed during the suspects’ arraignment on December 3, shows Lamoni striking Samaroo with the bat.
Both Lamoni and Nina have pleaded not guilty to the charges. Lamoni was released on supervised release, while Nina was granted bail.
Samaroo’s death has left his family devastated. A GoFundMe campaign has been set up to support Shears and their children, with Samaroo being remembered as a loving father who “showered his daughters with undivided attention.”

The tragic event has sparked outrage, and the community is calling for justice as the case unfolds.
