After over a decade of evading justice, Arnoldo Jimenez, one of the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted fugitives, has finally been captured in Monterrey, Mexico.
Jimenez, who had been on the run since May 2012, was wanted for the brutal murder of his wife, Estrella Carrera, on their wedding night.
Carrera, just 26 years old, was found lifeless in the bathtub of her Burbank, Illinois apartment just days after marrying Jimenez.
Police determined that Jimenez had allegedly killed her, and a manhunt ensued. He was charged with first-degree murder and unlawfully fleeing to avoid prosecution, leading to an FBI investigation that spanned multiple years and crossed borders.
The long-awaited capture of Jimenez was the result of extensive cooperation between various law enforcement agencies.

The FBI’s Chicago and San Antonio offices, the FBI’s Legal Attaché office in Mexico City, and the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois worked alongside Mexican authorities and Interpol to locate and apprehend Jimenez in Monterrey.
Douglas S. DePodesta, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI’s Chicago Field Office, expressed appreciation for the effort, stating, “The FBI will use all of its available resources to bring criminals to justice, no matter how much time has passed or where they may be in the world.”
Burbank Police Deputy Chief William Casey also praised the success of the operation, noting, “This apprehension is the result of tireless teamwork and brings justice for Estrella Carrera and her family.”
Jimenez, who was the fourth-most wanted fugitive in the U.S. at the time of his arrest, is now in custody and awaiting extradition to face charges in Illinois.
