Ex-Facebook Exec Spent $13K on Lingerie and Made Unsettling Advances, New Book Alleges

In a shocking new memoir, Sarah Wynn-Williams, a former Facebook employee, has made explosive claims about Sheryl Sandberg, the ex-COO of the social media giant.

Wynn-Williams recounts a European trip where Sandberg allegedly spent $13,000 on lingerie for herself and her assistant.

The lingerie shopping spree, described as lavish and careless, allegedly took place during a road trip across Europe, where the two women reportedly engaged in intimate acts, including sleeping in each other’s laps.

Wynn-Williams claims that during their return flight on a private jet, Sandberg, dressed in pajamas, invited her to “come to bed” in what was said to be the only bed available.

When Wynn-Williams declined, the ex-COO reportedly became visibly upset, making for a tense situation on the plane.

The memoir, titled Careless People: A Cautionary Tale of Power, Greed, and Lost Idealism, paints a scathing portrait of life within the upper echelons of Facebook.

Wynn-Williams, who worked at the company for six years before leaving in 2017, also details troubling behavior by other Facebook executives, including Joel Kaplan, the company’s former Vice President of U.S. Policy.

According to Wynn-Williams, Kaplan made uncomfortable comments during a work event and pressured her even during a dangerous pregnancy-related health crisis.

Facebook has strongly denied these allegations. A spokesperson for Meta, the company formerly known as Facebook, dismissed Wynn-Williams’ claims as false, pointing to her previous firing in 2017 for poor performance.

They argued that Wynn-Williams had been paid by anti-Facebook activists to push an agenda through her book.

Wynn-Williams’ memoir also sheds light on Facebook’s attempts to gain favor with the Chinese government, detailing secretive projects to re-enter the Chinese market with censorship tools and data-sharing proposals, which she describes as part of CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s attempt to ingratiate himself with the Chinese Communist Party.
