In a surprising turn of events, Nigerian-born forward Chuba Akpom’s transfer plans have taken a sharp detour, with Dutch giants Ajax stepping in to secure his services.
The 27-year-old, who previously honed his skills in Arsenal’s youth academy, was initially poised to join French club RC Lens. However, Lens abruptly withdrew from the deal despite a pre-existing agreement with Middlesbrough.

The deal involves a €12 million base fee, supplemented by €2 million in potential add-ons. This move marks a significant development for Akpom, who enjoyed a prolific run as the top scorer in the Sky Bet Championship last season, notching an impressive 28 goals.
As the deal progresses, Akpom has been granted permission to journey to the Netherlands, where he will undergo a medical examination on Monday – today. If all goes well, he is expected to finalize a five-year contract with Ajax.
