Following several threats made against the life of the former Special Prosecutor, Mr. Martin Amidu, President Akufo-Addo has directed the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to provide 24-hour police protection for him.
Martin Amidu, who officially announced his resignation as the Special Prosecutor on Monday, November 16, 2020, has revealed that there have been some threats made against his life.
He made this revelation in a recent radio interview on Citi FM, dated Thursday, November 19, 2020, and according to his statement, he stated that he knows some of the people who are planning to harm him. He then added that the President of the country, Akufo-Addo is to be held responsible should something happen to him [Martin].
Mr Eugene Arhin who is the Director of Communications at the Presidency took to his Facebook page on Thursday night, November 19, 2020, to share with the general public the stands of the President on the Claims of Mr. Martin Amidu and what he was doing about it.
“The attention of the Office of the President has been drawn to claims by Mr Martin Amidu, the former Special Prosecutor, of threats made against his life since his resignation from office.
The President has, thus, directed the Inspector General of Police to provide Mr Amidu immediately with 24 hour police protection.
The former Special Prosecutor is also encouraged to assist the police with details of persons who have made these threats against his life, so that they can be dealt with in accordance with the laws of the country,” Mr Arhin wrote.
