The Asogli State Chiefs are fiercely against the government’s plan to rename Ho Technical University in honour of Dr. Ephriam Amu.
The Traditional Council has criticised the decision, which was first made public in February 2018, for not consulting important parties.
The council voiced its profound disgust with the government and the university’s governing body during a news conference on Monday, April 22, 2024, for moving forward with the renaming without consulting key parties, such as the Asogli State Council, who are the land’s guardians.
The decision was deemed unfortunate, misguided, and insulting by the Asogli State Council since it disregarded the opinions of people who would be immediately impacted.
The Asogli State Council, represented by Togbe Adzi Lakle Howusu XII, reaffirmed their vehement objection to the renaming, pointing out that it is not only unjustified but also disrespectful of the university’s history and identity.
“Attempts to rename the institute as Dr. Ephraim Amu Technical Institute have once again come to our knowledge from government and Ho Technical University authorities. Reiterating our strong opposition to the government’s decision to rename the institution without consulting the Ho people and chiefs is the goal of the Asogli State Council.
The Asogli State Council considers it regrettable, inappropriate, and disrespectful that the institution was renamed without proper consultation.
