Midfielder Frenkie de Jong of Barcelona has stated that he has no intention of leaving the team before the forthcoming summer transfer window, according to club president Joan Laporta.

Since joining Barca in 2019 after leaving Ajax for €75 million, De Jong has been a vital member of the team. But despite the club’s severe financial difficulties, Barca has always been able to sell the Dutchman, and nearly two years ago, they attempted to flog him to Manchester United.

De Jong’s future, along with those of Ronald Araujo and Pedri, has remained uncertain because the Catalans are still in financial trouble. Despite this, the player has consistently stated that he wants to stay, and Laporta has confirmed that this hasn’t altered.

“He is thrilled about Barcelona.” Leaving Barcelona would be the last thing he would want. The president told Mundo Deportivo, “He has told me multiple times that he is delighted here.”

“There is space here for a new contract. We are thrilled to have him,” Laporta continued.

“We cannot go against a player’s desire to go, and I’m not concerned about anyone. But we want everyone who is with us to stay, and I believe that everyone wants to stay.”

De Jong gained notoriety at Ajax under Erik ten Hag last summer, and both Manchester United and Bayern Munich made inquiries at that same time. He has frequently been connected to Paris Saint-Germain, and more lately, there have also been murmurs about Chelsea reviving.

Signed in the autumn of 2020, De Jong’s Barcelona contract is valid through the conclusion of the 2025–2026 campaign. A lack of clarity over who would pay Ten Hag an outstanding amount in deferred Barca wages finally ruined a projected transfer to Manchester United in the summer of 2022 after a deal had been agreed upon between the teams.
