BET, the award’s organizers, officially released the entire list of candidates for the 17 categories on Monday, September 12, 2022.

The good news for Ghanaian music lovers after missing out on any nominations in the previous year is that Ghana will be represented this time around by Kwaku The Traveler hitmaker Black Sherif.

This year’s ceremony will be marking its 17th annual edition.

The Ghanaian-born rapper, Black Sherif born with his legal name Mohammed Ismail Sherif Kwaku Frimpong who has been in the chart making waves with his creative songs found himself nominated in the Best International Flow category, a category which was first won by Ghana and Afirca’s best and most decorated rapper, Sarkodie.

The “BET HIP HOP AWARDS” 2022 will be hosted by Grammy®-nominated recording artist, actor, and entrepreneur, Fat Joe, live from the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre in Atlanta, GA, on Friday, September 30, and will premiere Tuesday, October 4, 2022, at 9 PM ET/PT on BET.

Drake, a Canadian rapper, singer, and actor born Aubrey Drake Graham, leads the pack with 14 nominations, making him the artist with the most nods.

Kanye West comes in second with ten nominations, including Hip Hop Artist of the Year, while Kendrick Lamar gets nine nominations in total. Rapper Future receives eight nominations, while Baby Keem, Cardi B, and J. Cole each received six.
