The four thugs who tossed Molotov cocktails into the yard of Class Media Group (CMG), which is located in Labone, Accra, were shown arriving and leaving on CCTV cameras from various viewpoints.

That was Thursday morning, at about two in the morning.

Fireworks were ignited and thrown into CMG’s compound by two individuals on two motorbikes that stopped in front of the media house, according to the CCTV footage, before they fled.

CMG’s recently erected glass doors and reception area barrier were destroyed by the explosions.

An investigation into the attack is still underway by the police.

The bombing incident has been deemed “shocking” by Mr. Cecil Sunkwa-Mills, President of the Ghana Independent Broadcasters Association (GIBA). *

On Friday, April 26, 2024, in an interview with Kwame Dwomoh-Agyemang for the Class Morning Show, Mr. Sunkwa-Mills stated that GIBA had a late-night discussion about the incident.

“Especially at this time of year, it raises security concerns for radio and TV stations, and we think it’s best to let the police investigate what exactly happened,” he said.

It’s a little challenging right now to determine the precise motivation behind someone throwing Molotov cocktails at a TV station, he added, but he’s grateful that CCTV captured the incident.

Since this kind of attack has never been seen before and we don’t know why someone would carry out such an attack, I believe it is best to wait and see exactly what the police also come up with. Therefore, we would need to investigate the precise cause of this attack. In the meanwhile, it just means that we must stress again how crucial it is for your station to have the highest level of security, both physically and by other ways, especially at the point of entrance, in order to prevent a missile or other threat. It’s crucial, Mr. Sunkwa-Mills continued.

He stated that for the time being, GIBA does not wish to conjecture about the reason(s) or perpetrators of the attack.

We are not yet ready to assign blame to any one individual or group since we are still unsure about the precise nature of the political motivation behind this attack. That’s the reason I stated that we need ascertain the precise circumstances of what transpired,” he continued, adding, “We haven’t received any indication that it was a direct response to a specific programme that your station produced. We need to know exactly what may have caused this action, which is why I mentioned that we want to learn more about the motivation behind this unless Class FM has further information to share. We haven’t received that response.
