Chelsea and Leicester have both been fined £22,500 by the Football Association following an on-field clash between the teams towards the end of a Premier League fixture at Stamford Bridge on May 18.

A tackle by Foxes full-back Ricardo Pereira on Ben Chilwell sparked a 20-man melee between players and staff from both sides.

Antonio Rudiger reacted by squaring up to Pereira before the clash evolved into a bigger altercation between the other players, coaches and substitutes

Daniel Armartey, who was an unused sub for the Foxes, was booked for his involvement in the scrap while Pereira was shown a yellow card for the foul on Chilwell.

The clubs were then charged with a breach of FA Rule E20.1 last month, but now the FA has confirmed the price of the fine.

An FA spokesperson said: ‘Chelsea FC and Leicester City FC have been fined £22,500 each after admitting a breach of FA Rule E20.1 following their Premier League fixture on Tuesday 18 May 2021.

‘Both clubs admitted that they failed to ensure their players and club officials conducted themselves in an orderly fashion and refrained from provocative behaviour during the 93rd minute of the fixture.’

Chelsea won the match 2-1 which proved crucial in their pursuit of a top-four finish, with Leicester eventually missing out on the Champions League.

Following a similar brawl in a match with Tottenham in May 2016, the Blues were fined £375,000 a couple of months later and warned of a potential points deduction in the near future if similar incidents occurred.

But The FA quickly moved to deny reports that Chelsea could face a points deduction.

Blues boss Thomas Tuchel played down the clash in his post-match interview, telling beIN Sports: ‘I didn’t see what happened [at the start] but it’s tough to be behind, to lose big matches.

‘Things got a bit heated but nothing special. You like to report about it and that’s the way it is.’
