New information reaching Townflex has it that the deadline for the sim reregistration in Ghana with the Ghana Card has been extended.

This was made known to the general public via a press statement released on Tuesday, March 22, 2022, signed by Ursula Owusu, the minister of communications and digitalization.

It would be recalled that back in 2021 the vice-president Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has revealed that all Ghanaians who still want to keep using their Sim Cards are to re-register it by linking it to their Ghana cards.

The SIM registration exercise began on October 1, 2021, and was originally expected to end on March 31st, 2022.

Well, according to Tuesday’s press statement from the Ministry, they have decided to extend the deadline for the linking of Ghana Card with Sim Cards to July 31st, 2022.

According to the statement, the reason for the extension of date is due to the fact that Ghanaians are facing a whole lot of challenges in getting their sim cards linked with their Ghana cards since many still going through a lot of stress, and are yet to obtain the Ghana Cards.

The statement confirmed that since the reregistration started through to March 17th, 2022, only a total of 14,091,542 sim cards have been linked with the Ghana Card, adding that 10,348,532 Bio-Captures have also be conducted and 99,445 New SIMS registered due to factors including most Ghanaians are yet to get a Ghana Card.

Part of the statement reads; “As at 17th March, 14,091,542 SIM Cards have been linked to the Ghana Card, 10,348,532 Bio-Captures conducted and 99,445 New SIMS registered. Due to a number of factors including the fact that over 7.5 million citizens and residents are yet to obtain Ghana Cards to enable them register their SIM cards, it is clear that the deadline for completion of the registration of the remaining active SIM cards cannot be met”.
