GES’s ‘offensive’ semester calendar is being fought by teacher unions.

The Service failed to engage broadly before making the announcement, according to the teacher unions.

The Ghana National Association of Teachers, the National Association of Graduate Teachers, the Coalition of Concenerd Teachers, Ghana (CCT-GH), and the Teachers and Educational Workers Union (TEWU) issued a press release on Monday, January 17 that stated, the interest of the Union members in Academic achievement has been derived to a manuscript in the public realm reputed to have adjusted from a semester to a semester academic calendar by the GES.”

Such a significant policy shift should have prompted widespread consultation, and as a result, I find both the statement as well as the documentation objectionable and take issue with them.

They asserted that the number of hours they are required to work has climbed dramatically, in stark contrast to the number of hours they are required to work the provisions of their bargaining agreement

The Organisations in Teaching regard the GES’ judgment call to shift the timetable to an academic session timetable as unjustified and a burden on major stakeholders, including the Union members in Teaching,” it said that in a combined news release.

We consequently insist that now the GES retract the rules exist, pending comprehensive discussion with the Educational Unions and other trying to impress, and make a note that omission to do this will be vigorously opposed.
