Prof. Julius Kofi Hagan, an associate professor at the University of Cape Coast’s School of Agriculture, is pleading with teachers to give plots of land as rewards to pupils who do good things.

He claims that the property should only be utilized for farming in order to develop students’ interest in the industry.

In addition to that, the associate professor claims that certain students have lost interest in the subject because teachers punish some students with agricultural-related tasks.

Prof. Hagan, however, is of the opinion that all levels of institutions, from elementary to tertiary, should utilize the huge, unutilized areas they own in order to recognize and reward their best pupils.

“Without education, we should forget about developing agriculture because agriculture is a business and it’s a profession. It is not a try and error thing.

Prof. Julius Kofi Hagan maintained that because Ghana is working hard to improve the agriculture industry, which is vital to the country’s development, significant attention must be paid to agricultural education.

In addition to that, the professor from UCC also argued for reorganizing the school curriculum so that the science underlying agricultural methods is taught to better prepare students for the workforce.

He claimed that by doing this, they will be better equipped to develop some enthusiasm for agriculture as a subject and a career.

As a result, he suggested that agriculture be taught as a stand-alone subject rather than in conjunction with the integrated science curriculum, which he claimed taught more biology, chemistry, and physics than agriculture.
