It’s official… Manchester City have confirmed an agreement to sign Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland for £51.1m.

Manchester City have activated the Norwegian striker’s release clause and the player will join on July 1 for a total of £85.5m including agents fees and other add-ons.

The Citizens beat their rivals Manchester United, Real Madrid, Barcelona and a number of European giant who were interested in the signing of the 21-year-old from Borussia Dortmund.

Erling Haaland boasts an incredible scoring record in 2018 when he joined RB Salzburg from Molde for just over £7m, scoring 29 goals in 27 games for the Austrian side.

The 21 year old is one of the most sought-after forwards in Europe since joining Borussia Dortmund from RB Salzburg, scored 85 goals in 88 games for the German side.

Borussia Dortmund have stepped up to sign Haaland’s replacement after securing Red Bull Salzburg starlet Karim Adeyemi for a fee of £38m.

The 21-year-old Norwegian’s arrival is likely to see Pep Guardiola reduce his reliance on using midfielders or wingers as a ‘false nine’ – a tactic that has served City well in recent seasons.

The Norwegian arrival to Etihad will see Man City’s Gabriel Jesus and Raheem Sterling consider their future elsewhere as both are out of contract in 2023.

Arsenal are thought to hold long standing interest in Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus as Mikel Arteta wants to add a striker to his ranks.

Erling Haaland is set to say a fond farewell to Dortmund fans at their final game of the season, against Hertha Berlin on Sunday.

He is expected to link up with City during pre-season training in July and should be available for the Blues’ US summer tour, despite being expected to play Euro Nations League games for Norway next month.
