At Etihad Stadium, Manchester City easily defeated a disillusioned and fatigued Newcastle United to advance to the FA Cup semi-finals.

On a rainy night in Manchester, Pep Guardiola’s team scarcely faced any opposition and is still in the running to win the FA Cup, the Premier League, and the Champions League, which they won historically last season.

They have advanced to the last four in seven of Guardiola’s eight FA Cup seasons as manager, making them the only team in FA Cup history to reach six straight semi-finals.

Despite a bit of luck in both goals, City led by two goals at the half on Saturday and were in complete control with 75% of the play.

After 13 minutes, Dan Burn’s outstretched leg diverted Bernardo Silva’s drive over Newcastle keeper Martin Dubravka, and just after the half-hour mark, the Portuguese striker found the back of defender Sven Botman’s head to score.

The greatest opportunity for Newcastle came from a save by goalie Stefan Ortega on an attempt by Alexander Isak in the first half.

Other than that, City had a stress-free evening before returning to Wembley. Eddie Howe now has to make sure that a season marked by underachievement doesn’t end in a timid fashion.
