“I wanna get citizenship in Ghana!!!! America made to tear black men down if you don’t follow orders!” the rapper wrote on X.

A few hours later, the rapper came out and made a separate post stating that “Africa don’t got this sh*t; I’m getting dual citizenship if they let me!”.

What is dual citizenship?

Dual citizenship refers to a person being a citizen of two countries simultaneously. This means they enjoy the rights and privileges of citizenship in both nations. Dual citizenship can occur due to various reasons, such as being born in one country to parents who are citizens of another, naturalization in a new country without renouncing citizenship in the original country, or marriage to a citizen of another country. Each country has its own laws and regulations regarding dual citizenship, so it’s essential to understand the specific rules of both countries involved.

Meek Mill Eyes Ghanaian Citizenship

The reason for Meek’s decision is due to the fact that he isn’t happy with the United States system of handling issues even with the legal approach, which to him does not favour Black Americans.

Meek Mills’ announcement was, however, met with positive and negative reactions from both fans and followers, with some agreeing with his decision since Ghana is among the list of peaceful and coolest countries in West Africa, while others also raised concerns about the Nation’s stance on LGBTQ.

Well, that is up to the rapper to decide if he really wants to go ahead with moving to Ghana or not, only time will tell.

Remember that Mill was in Ghana back in 2023? Yes, the rapper visited the country as part of the Year of Return initiative, where he came along with his crew and got the chance to meet Ghana’s president, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, at the Jubilee House.

During his visit to the Jubilee House, the rapper filmed some portions of his visit there that were intended to be used for a music video he was working on, but the portion did bring up some issues, leading to fans, citizens, and MPs not being on the same page with him taking footage of the Jubilee House, which seems not to be a right thing to do.

The rapper following the comments and backlashes heeded pressure and came out with an apology for surreptitiously filming a music video in Ghana’s presidential palace, also known as Jubilee House.

The rapper said in his statement that he would “take responsibility for my mistake.”

“To the people of Ghana, no video I drop is ever meant to disrespect the people of Ghana,” he wrote.

“The fastest way to make connections is thru music [sic] and I wanted to do that with displaying art. I’m in my 30s from America and didn’t know much about the lifestyle.” He wrote.

He added that officials for Ghana’s president, Nana Akufo-Addo, may not have been aware he was shooting a music video, saying the set-up had been “a small camera and a kid”.

The president’s office has not commented on the story; and Mill has removed his video from Instagram.
