Bill Whitfield, Michael Jackson’s former bodyguard, has made unexpected statements that may have played an important part in the death of the “King of Pop.”
Jackson, who died on June 25, 2009, was found dead in his bed at his Los Angeles home by his personal physician, Conrad Murray.
The official cause of death was ruled to be acute propofol poisoning, but fresh information from Whitfield suggests there may be more to the story.
Whitfield, who began working with Jackson in December 2006, shared his observations about the singer’s life in his final years. He noted that Jackson’s life became increasingly chaotic, especially after his legal troubles in the 1990s and early 2000s.

In 1993, Jackson faced accusations of child sexual abuse, which he vehemently denied. In 2005, he was put on trial for further allegations, but was acquitted after the FBI failed to find any evidence of criminal conduct.
During this time, Whitfield observed how these controversies deeply affected Jackson. “He would never hurt a child,” Whitfield stated, reflecting on the impact of the allegations. “That wasn’t the man I knew,” he added. He believed that the accusations and the ensuing media scrutiny took a significant emotional toll on the “Thriller” star.
In March 2009, Jackson announced his “This Is It” residency, a series of comeback concerts that were supposed to herald his return to the stage. Whitfield described how Jackson moved to Los Angeles for rehearsals, resulting in larger stress and strain.
“There were more people in his life, and it became hectic,” Whitfield explained. “He was doing a lot of rehearsing. I could tell it was weighing on him.” Just three weeks before the first concert was due to start, Jackson was found dead from a propofol overdose.
Was Jackson’s Death Intentional?
Whitfield revealed that he has often pondered whether Jackson’s death was a tragic accident or something more sinister. “Do I think someone made a mistake? Yes,” he admitted, suggesting that negligence could have played a part.
However, he rejected the idea that Jackson’s death was deliberate. “The thought that he died at the hands of someone intentionally, that doesn’t weigh with me,” he clarified.
