An Oklahoma woman, Leah Breuer, has pleaded guilty to the vicious murder of her ex-boyfriend, David Peeler, in a shocking case that rocked McLennan County, Texas. The 38-year-old admitted in court to stabbing Peeler over 50 times during a deadly April 2023 encounter at the Village Square Apartments.
Breuer’s violent attack, aided by her sister, left the victim with multiple stab wounds, including a knife lodged in his neck, a gruesome detail that authorities say played a critical role in the cover-up attempt.
As KWTX, Breuer accepted a plea deal on Monday and will serve a recommended 35-year sentence. The deal was approved by the presiding judge, sparing the Peeler family the trauma of a trial. Prosecutors described the murder as “brutal” and credited investigators for closing a case that initially presented many obstacles.
The tragedy unfolded in McLennan County, about 100 miles south of Dallas, where both sisters were originally set to stand trial on the same day. However, Breuer’s surprise agreement changed the course of events.

Her sister, Joann Cometsevah, 34, now faces charges of murder and tampering with evidence. She reportedly has her own plea agreement in the works, though details remain confidential, and her next court date has not yet been confirmed.

Authorities say that after Breuer’s arrest, a fellow inmate at the McLennan County Jail came forward with key information. The informant told investigators that Breuer confessed to her sister helping cover up the murder.
According to the affidavit, Cometsevah allegedly removed the murder weapon from Peeler’s neck, gathered his phone, and threw away blood-soaked items. The evidence was believed to have been discarded in a dumpster near the scene.
Police discovered Peeler lying on a deflated air mattress inside his apartment. His body bore more than 50 stab wounds to the neck and torso, solidifying the severity of the attack.
Court records reveal the couple had a history of domestic disputes. In October 2022, Breuer reportedly assaulted Peeler with a car key, but the incident never led to formal charges.
During Breuer’s sentencing, Peeler’s family members delivered emotional victim impact statements. One sister tearfully reflected on her brother’s final moments, questioning how terrified and betrayed he must have felt.

Breuer’s lawyer, Bryan Cantrel, expressed sympathy for the Peeler family, stating, “My heart is broken for this family. I feel like my client got up there and accepted responsibility.”
Prosecutors praised the work of local police and their own investigative team for building a strong case. They said the plea deal ensured justice without forcing the victim’s family to endure a drawn-out trial.
“This final conviction brought a lengthy sentence, waived appeal rights, and gave the family some closure,” prosecutors Ralph Strother and Duncan Widmann concluded.
