Osinachi’s husband charged with homicide

The Federal Government of Nigeria has taken legal action against Mr. Peter Nwachukwu over the death of his wife, award-wining Nigerian gospel singer, Osinachi who passed away in April.

As it would be recalled, the renowned Ekwueme singer died on Friday, April 8, 2022, where a few days later, her husband Peter Nwachukwu was arrested by the law enforcement team over her death and was accused of physically assaulting his wife on several occasions which led to her death.

It was also alleged that Nwachukwu, had at a time, forcefully pushed his late wife out of a moving vehicle.

The case against Peter Nwachukwu was filed on May 20, 2022, by the Head of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence in the Department of Public Prosecutions of the Federation at the Ministry of Justice, Mrs. Yewande Gbola-Awopetu.

Recent reports confirm that he has been charged with 23-counts which includes homicide. His charges are in accordance with Sections 104 and 379 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015.

Homicide under sections 104 and 379 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015, an offense contrary to section 221 of the Penal Code and punishable with death.

According to the charges, Count one reads, “That you Peter Nwachukwu, 56, male, on the 8th of April, 2022 at Aco Estate, opposite police station, Lugbe, Abuja, FCT, within the jurisdiction of this honourable court, did commit an offence to with: culpable homicide punishable with death in that you caused the death of Mrs Osinachi Nwachukwu by your various acts of violence and aggravated assault with the knowledge that her death would be the probable consequence of your acts.”

Count two, “Statement of offence: Wilfully placing a person in fear of physical injury contrary to section 4(1) of the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Act, 2015 and punishable under the same section of the Act.”
