A South Dakota preschool teacher has been arrested and charged with the rape of a 3-year-old child while working at a daycare.
Sarah Hazledine, 48, faces severe charges, including first-degree rape of a minor under the age of 13 and sexual contact with a minor under the age of 16.
The alleged incident took place in August 2024 at the Spearfish daycare center.
Court documents reveal that Hazledine is accused of sexually assaulting the toddler during her time at the daycare, with both charges relating to the same victim.
The case was brought to a grand jury, which indicted Hazledine on March 20, 2024. She posted a $75,000 bond after her arrest.

A longtime friend of Hazledine, who has known her for 30 years, has publicly defended her, claiming the accusations are false.
The friend stated that many people have come forward to offer their support and vouch for Hazledine’s character. Despite this defense, Hazledine is facing serious legal consequences.
The teacher is scheduled for an initial court appearance on April 28, 2024. If convicted of first-degree rape, Hazledine could face a minimum of 15 years in prison.
This case has shocked the community and raised concerns about the safety of children in daycare settings, particularly when it comes to the people entrusted with their care.
