At the 2024 Dreamville Festival in North Carolina on Sunday, Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Rema stunned the audience by exiting the stage unexpectedly mid-performance.

During his performance of the hit song “Calm Down” on Day 2 of the Raleigh festival in Dix Park, Rema took a moment to voice his displeasure with the sound system before he abruptly left the stage.

Rema expressed his dissatisfaction and emphasized the significance of giving African musicians on international stages the same sound standards as their Western counterparts.

“Hold on, there are too many sound issues,” he said candidly. It’s ruining my entire performance. I really don’t feel this sh*t. I stand for Africa; this is just too problematic. Should the sound quality not be flawless for each performer who steps onto the stage… You are mucking things up while Africa is in the home.

Leading American hip-hop artist J. Cole organised the Dreamville Festival, which gave artists from all backgrounds a stage on which to perform and engage with fans.
