There has been a recent change in plans as Russian militants have set a new target date for the full occupation of the Donetsk region.
According to Vitalii Barabash, the head of Avdiivka Municipal Military Administration, they intend to reach the administrative borders by December 31 of this year.
Barabash stated, “They have set another date to reach the administrative borders of the Donetsk region. Now it’s December 31. In other words, they have a task to reach the administrative borders of the Donetsk region by the end of the year,”

The Russian forces are well aware that capturing Avdiivka would provide them with a strategic advantage in advancing towards Pokrovsk and other populated areas. Therefore, taking control of the high ground within the city is of utmost importance to them.
However, Barabash also points out that the terrorists are causing significant damage to Avdiivka.
Over the course of this week, the militants have intensified their offensive on Avdiivka in the Donetsk region, subjecting the city and nearby areas to heavy shelling. Ukrainian soldiers have repelled approximately 20 attacks in the Avdiivka region in just the past day. The situation in the city remains highly volatile.
Analysts at the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) suggest that the Russian attempt to advance on the city may be akin to a formidable challenge.
Despite the ongoing intense battles, Barabash noted that, for the first time since the escalation began, there were no rocket strikes in Avdiivka last night. Nonetheless, the situation remains highly precarious.
