WASHINGTON — Former White House Communications Director Anthony Scaramucci claims President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump are no longer living together.
Speaking on The Daily Beast Podcast, Scaramucci stated that the couple has “grown apart” during Trump’s second term in office. He described their current dynamic as cold and distant.
”I think it’s distant for a number of different reasons,” Scaramucci said. “But I think they probably have grown apart.”
Scaramucci pointed out that the absence of the Trump family defines this current administration. He noted that the family struggled with public pressure during Trump’s first presidency.
”The family unit that came into Trump 1.0 didn’t like it,” Scaramucci explained. “They didn’t like the blistering in Washington. They didn’t like the 360-degree firing squad. I don’t think they like the spotlight that was put on them.”
Melania Trump previously promised she would stay “in the White House” while splitting time between New York City and Palm Beach. Her main focus remained on her son, Barron Trump, who attends New York University.
”But my first priority is to be a mom, to be a first lady, to be a wife,” Melania Trump said in an earlier statement.
Scaramucci addressed their current living arrangements directly during the podcast.
”It’s pretty clear that they’re not living together,” Scaramucci said. He added that the couple still makes public appearances together when required.
Public records show the First Lady appeared in public 47 times in 2025 following the January inauguration. In the first seven months of 2026, she made just 38 public appearances. Recent White House photos showed the couple together on July 4, 2026, for the “Salute to America 250” Independence Day events.
Scaramucci served as White House communications director in July 2017. Trump fired him after just 11 days following a blunt interview with The New Yorker. Scaramucci later backed Democratic presidential candidates Joe Biden in 2020 and Kamala Harris in 2024.
Despite his fallout with the president, Scaramucci said he maintained a “good rapport” with Melania Trump. He described her as a grounding force who could tell Trump to “tone it down.”
”She was always very nice to me,” Scaramucci said. “I always liked her, my wife liked her. She was down to earth, classy.”
Scaramucci recalled a dinner in the White House Blue Room where Trump seemed uneasy about his conversation with the First Lady.
”He’s a taller guy than me. And he looked over and looked down at me and he’s like: ‘Why are you sitting next to my wife?’ And I looked at him and I’m like: ‘I have no idea. First of all, do you think I made the place cards? I have no idea why I’m sitting next to your wife,'” Scaramucci recounted.
”I think it unnerves him when people have a good rapport with her,” he added.
The White House did not respond to requests for comment regarding the First Lady’s schedule or living arrangements.
