Acting State Supreme Court Justice Steven Pilewski gave them the maximum terms even though they expressed love for the child and asked for clemency.

Valarie Owusu blamed Addae for the beatings during the sentencing process, while her lawyer argued for a minimum term.

She stated that until the evidence was shown during the trial, she was ignorant of the severity of her son’s injuries.

According to Valarie, she started dating Addae in part to give her kid a father figure; the two of them have two more children, one of whom was born while she was incarcerated. She said she wished her son “would be alive today” and regretted not seeing how terrible the situation was sooner.

Emotionally sharing her love for her baby, Valarie focused on special moments that would help her get through her incarceration.

Emmanuel Addae, the late son of Valarie, made brief statements in which he declared his love for King and his desire of a future reunion in paradise.

His defence had asked for a sentence ranging from twenty years to life.
