Celebrity Afro-dancehall performer Livingstone Etse Satekla, better known by his stage as Stonebwoy, has taken entertainment critic and aspiring politician Sadiq Abdulai Abu, also known as Baba Sadiq, to court over remarks the politician made on his X page (previously known as Twitter).

Before a petition filed before the High Court of Justice on May 31, 2024, the current Ghanaian Artist of the Year, Baba Sadiq, is requesting that the court force him to remove the offensive tweets and offer Stonebwoy an unconditional apology.

On the grounds that Baba Sadiq behaved deliberately and with the intention of defaming Stonebwoy by tweeting information that he knew to be false, Stonebwoy is also requesting that the court grant him damages of GHS 3 million for the injury the tweets have caused to his reputation.

For those who are aware of the circumstances behind the tweets, the lawsuit is not surprising. Regarding Stonebwoy’s choice to disregard Sadiq’s unsettling remarks—which implied that Stonebwoy is a violent abuser of women—social media users have voiced alarm.

Given Stonebwoy’s lengthy history of advocating for women’s rights and leading numerous charitable endeavours to promote women, the remarks quickly gained widespread attention and sparked contentious debates among fans and the broader public.

Given that the Ghanaian icon has used the legal system to defend his rights, the writ attests to his dedication to preserving his hard-earned reputation.
