A 15-year-old teenager has sparked a heated family disagreement after lashing out at his older brother, 20, who mocked him for grieving the loss of their dog.
The emotional exchange has led the teen to question whether he should apologize for his harsh words, but many online are supporting his response.
In a post shared on Reddit’s “Am I the A——?” forum, the teen explained that his dog, Romeo, who had been with him since childhood, passed away unexpectedly.
The dog’s death hit him hard, and he found himself overwhelmed with emotions, even crying as he looked through old pictures of his beloved pet.
However, his older brother, who the teen describes as a “stereotypical tough guy,” dismissed his grief, mocking him with comments like, “You really crying over a dog?” and “Man up, it’s just an animal.”
The teenager tried to ignore the taunts but was pushed too far when his brother continued to belittle him, even pretending to cry in a mocking way.

Eventually, the teen snapped and, in an emotional outburst, responded by reminding his brother of his recent breakup, suggesting that at least the dog had loved him, unlike his ex-girlfriend who had cheated on him.
The teen’s comment left his older brother silent and angry, prompting him to report the incident to their parents.
The parents then told the younger sibling that he had crossed the line and should apologize for his harsh words.
However, the teen stood by his actions, arguing that his brother started the conflict by mocking him in the first place.
Many Reddit users rallied behind the teen, with one commenting, “A 20-year-old who makes fun of a sibling for crying over a pet is heartless,” and others sharing their own experiences of grief over lost pets.
While some acknowledged that the teen’s words were harsh, they argued that his brother’s behavior warranted the response.
