Townflex, (Ghana) – The National Communications Authority (NCA) has sent a written request to telecommunication networks, asking for the total number of Subscriber Identity Modules (SIMs) that were disconnected due to non-compliance with the government’s directive.
In accordance with the Minister of Communications and Digitalisation, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful’s instructions, all subscribers were required to register their SIMs with their Ghana Cards. The deadline for this was initially set for March 31, 2023, after several extensions.
As per the NCA’s instructions, all telcos must remove from their databases all SIMs that were disconnected in compliance with the March 31, 2023 deadline.

This action must be reflected in the Central SIM Register by Monday, April 17, 2023, including SIMs that remain blocked in compliance with the Hon. Minister’s directive on November 30, 2022.
The letter written by the Acting Deputy Director General of NCA, Prof Ezer Osei Yeboah-Boateng, instructs the Chief Executive Officers of telecommunication networks in Ghana to provide in writing to the NCA the total number of SIMs disconnected by Tuesday, April 18, 2023, as per the directive given.
The NCA has also stated that SIMs registered beyond the limit of 10 for a subscriber must be delinked, deactivated, and removed from SIM registration databases by April 17, 2023, and must reflect the same in the Central SIM Register.
The telcos have been warned by the Authority that non-compliance with these directives will be in violation of the Subscriber Identity Module Registration Regulations, 2011.
