A former Manchester United defender is advising Erik ten Hag to promptly incorporate Luke Shaw upon his full recovery, emphasizing the left-back’s significance as a vital component for the Red Devils.

During the previous season, Shaw was a regular in the Man Utd first team, making 47 appearances across all competitions under Ten Hag’s management. Notably, he contributed with one goal and six assists as Man Utd secured the League Cup, reached the FA Cup final, and finished third in the Premier League.

However, Shaw encountered a setback in the current campaign, sustaining a muscle injury during his second appearance against Tottenham Hotspur, resulting in a 2-0 defeat.

This absence exacerbated Ten Hag’s challenge at left-back, compounded by injuries to Sergio Reguilon and Tyrell Malacia.

In response, Ten Hag initially deployed midfielder Sofyan Amrabat, later relying on Victor Lindelof or Diogo Dalot when the former proved unsuccessful.

Fortunately, Reguilon has recently returned to fitness, but Shaw aims to reclaim his spot after the upcoming international break, potentially bolstering Man Utd after disappointing results against Copenhagen, Newcastle United, and Manchester City.

Mikael Silvestre, with an extensive Man Utd career from 1999 to 2008, praises Shaw, highlighting the 28-year-old’s potential to catalyze a turnaround in the team’s fortunes. Silvestre acknowledges the challenging circumstances with injuries and encourages unity, stressing Shaw’s importance in the defensive puzzle.

Despite the expectation that a left-back like Shaw may not contribute numerous goals, his return is anticipated to uplift the entire team.

Regular play by Shaw could aid central defenders in adjusting to a consistent left-back, mitigating the lineup changes Ten Hag has faced. Additionally, Shaw’s proficiency in supporting the attack from the left flank could result in assists for players like Rasmus Hojlund, Marcus Rashford, or Bruno Fernandes.

Before Shaw’s potential return, Man Utd is set to face Luton Town at Old Trafford. Meanwhile, both Man Utd and Arsenal will have to delay their pursuit of a classy Premier League star who recently committed to a new contract with his current club.
