Texas Man Charged with Murder After Beating Wife to Death with Clothing Iron

A Texas man has been charged with murder after allegedly killing his wife with a clothing iron, according to local reports.

On March 12, 2025, at approximately 7:20 a.m., Houston police responded to a call about a suspicious event at a residence in the city.

Upon arriving at the scene, officers found 34-year-old Chance Zane Chavez standing in the doorway of the home with his hands raised. His clothes, arms, and legs were reportedly covered in blood.

Police secured Chavez in a patrol car and proceeded to search the home for other potential victims.

Inside, they found his 32-year-old wife, Kristen Chavez, unresponsive in a bedroom. She had suffered blunt force trauma to her body and was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. Authorities later confirmed that Chavez had been charged with her murder.

The tragic incident has left the community in shock, and friends and family of Kristen have spoken out about her relationship with Chavez.

Kristen’s mother, Laura Bell, told Fox 26 Houston that she had remained hopeful that the marriage would improve despite ongoing issues.

“She tried to see the good in people even though they tried to take advantage of that,” said Kristen’s brother, Devin Cervantes.

After his arrest, Chavez was initially held in the Harris County Jail under a $250,000 bond. However, after an online petition calling for a higher bond gained over 9,000 signatures, the bond was raised to $500,000.

“We’re hoping that he remains in jail until the trial and throughout the trial for him to be held accountable for what he’s done,” Bell said.

Authorities also reported that after the murder, Chavez reportedly abandoned the couple’s four dogs on a nearby highway.
