Afro-Gospel musician Joseph Matthew, a Ghanaian living in the UK, has pushed the Ghana Awards board and organizers to step it up.

He said Ghana Awards has the potential to become GMA-UK and GMA-USA, but there are a lot of things that need to be verified.

He bases his judgment on the reality that, despite the fact that his song “Blessed” was awarded Best Gospel Song of the Year in the UK in 2023, he has yet to get the plaque that would normally serve as “proof” of this accomplishment. It gives the impression that it’s a joke, he said.

Furthermore, the musician declared that he will submit a 2025 GMA Award application, despite the fact that he did not do so in 2024 “due to frustration.”

“I dislike boxes,”Joseph Matthew said, “I need to be free.” He begged people not to categorize him as a gospel musician only because he was named the Best Gospel Musician because “there is more” in him.

He went on to add, though, that just because a song mentions Jesus does not automatically make a performer of gospel music; rather, he might write a song about love whenever he feels like it and would then “need to be comfortable to sing that song.”

Many of Joseph Matthew’s songs, including “Hallelujah,” “Nyame Ye,” “Blessed,” and “Promise Land,” are well-known.
