Thomas Tuchel breaking records as Chelsea FC win 2-0 against Everton

Jorginho’s penalty and a Ben Godfrey own goal secured Chelsea’s 2-0 Premier League win over Everton that could prove pivotal to the Champions League qualification race.

Kai Havertz starred in a false nine role at Stamford Bridge, with the Germany playmaker twice denied a goal before winning Chelsea’s penalty.

New boss Thomas Tuchel’s stunning start to life in west London extended to an 11th match without defeat and a ninth clean sheet.

Where Chelsea were leaky and hesitant under Frank Lampard, Tuchel has quickly recalibrated the Blues into a mean defensive machine.

Chelsea have conceded just two goals on Tuchel’s watch, and their second win over a Merseyside opponent in five days tightened the Blues’ grip on fourth place in the league table.

After Thursday’s comprehensive 1-0 win over Liverpool at Anfield, here was another assured victory over a north-west rival.

Ancelotti admits Everton were second best
Ancelotti told BT Sport: “We have to be honest, we are not at the same level. We cannot play an open game against this kind of team.

“It was the plan to play the same way as we played against Liverpool, but against Liverpool we scored early.

“We are looking to fight for Europe. This is good for us. We will be there until the last game. We are disappointed for this defeat but no tragedy. We look to the next game.”

Tuchel: ‘We controlled it completely’
Tuchel was a happy man as his positive start continued.

He told BT Sport: “We deserved to win. It was a very difficult first half, but we controlled it completely. Second half we increased our level and had a lot of dangerous attacks.

“You see the quality of the players and the club. It is a pleasure to be on the sideline and work with the team. Everybody in the club is doing everything to compete at this level.”

Chelsea ‘still far from where we want to be’
Azpilicueta insists there was still work to do for Tuchel’s side.

He added: “When you are in the Premier League, you need the effort from everybody. We know how tough it is to replicate it every three days.

“We are in the right way, but we are still far from where we want to be. We are on the right path, but we have to keep working because we didn’t do anything yet.”

Azpilicueta: ‘The team worked perfectly’
Chelsea skipper Cesar Azpilicueta was delighted with the way his team approached a potentially tricky encounter.

He told BT Sport: “Every victory always is a step forward. We know that we have to recover the ground that we lost and to be fair, tonight was a very good performance.

“Everton were getting very good results, obviously we knew that they were a very tough team, but the team worked perfectly.

“We played as a team with and without the ball and it’s very pleasing to see the team fighting without the ball and after, the quality.

“I think we could have scored even more goals.”

Controlled possession, created two really good chances and limited Everton to very little.

They were fortunate with the way the ball ended up in the net for their lead, but the chance was created by some really clever play.
