Renowned singer and actor, Tyrese Gibson recently found himself in legal battle following a contentious child support dispute with his ex-wife.
The 45-year-old was arrested on Monday, September 9, in Fulton County, Georgia, after the presiding judge found him in contempt of court. Gibson was forced to pay $73,500 to avoid additional jail time.
In an exclusive conversation with PEOPLE, Gibson was upfront about his views toward the judge involved in the case. He claimed that the judge “hates my guts” and is determined to use his authority, regardless of who is watching. “It’s unbearable being in court with him,” the actor stated, emphasizing the gravity of his continuing legal battle.
The arrest came from a motion filed by his ex-wife’s attorney, Lee, seeking that Gibson be held in contempt for allegedly neglecting to pay child support.
The judge ruled that Gibson might be released from jail if he cleared himself of contempt by paying the appropriate sum to Fulton County officials. Gibson, however, intends to appeal the decision, according to court documents.
Following his detention, Gibson took to Instagram Stories early Tuesday, September 10, to voice his frustration and anger with the situation. Getting arrested wasn’t easy…As a matter of fact, it was very traumatic…One would ask why does this judge…and my ex Samantha…HATE ME SO MUCH?” he said in a series of emotional messages.

Prior to the hearing, Gibson had hinted at the possibility of being arrested. Despite the ongoing court struggle with his ex-wife, Samantha Lee Gibson, he insisted on taking care of his children at all times.
“I am dad. And you know why I’m dad? Not because of what I bought them, not because of the clothes, not because of the square footage of the house, not because of the cars in the driveway and definitely not because of this fake jewelry I wear,” he passionately declared in a video. “I’m a father because that exchange between your son or your daughter is nothing that can be purchased.”
Gibson went on to say that if he was arrested, he would “’F— it. Get it over with,” signaling his readiness to face the consequences.
In a later post, the actor shared a series of photos of his daughters on Instagram, reiterating his love and devotion to them. “The love that a father can have for his children can’t quite be explained……. Whatever the outcome is today…… I am and will forever be their FATHER,” he wrote in the heartfelt caption.
