Ukraine Calls for More Air Defense Support As Deadly Drone Strikes Hit Dnipro, Killing Three Including Child

Russian forces have unleashed a devastating drone attack on the southeastern Ukrainian city of Dnipro, resulting in the deaths of three civilians, including a child. The assault, which left at least 30 others injured, is part of a recent surge in strikes against Ukrainian cities.

Authorities confirmed that five children were among the wounded. Serhii Lysak, the head of the Dnipropetrovsk regional administration, stated the attack caused “significant destruction” to civilian areas.

The drone assault ignited widespread fires and left a trail of destruction. Among the affected sites were residential buildings, a school, a dormitory, and a gymnasium. Emergency services worked through the night to extinguish the blazes and rescue survivors trapped under debris.

Dnipro’s latest tragedy adds to the growing list of civilian casualties as Russia intensifies its offensive. The attacks have become more frequent in recent weeks despite ongoing international efforts to negotiate peace.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy responded with a plea to Western allies, urging immediate reinforcement of Ukraine’s air defense systems.

“Every defense package from our partners is literally saving lives,” Zelenskyy posted on Telegram. “Russia uses every day and every night to kill.”

At the same time, a Ukrainian delegation arrived in Paris for high-level security meetings with nations from the “coalition of the willing,” including France, Germany, and the United Kingdom. The talks aim to forge long-term security guarantees for Ukraine and deter future Russian aggression once a ceasefire is in place.

Key Ukrainian figures in attendance include Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha and Defense Minister Rustem Umerov. Andrii Yermak, head of the Presidential Office, emphasized that discussions with U.S. officials were also planned.

“We are working on critical matters concerning Ukraine’s security and that of all Europe,” Yermak wrote.

In a separate development, Russia’s Defense Ministry claimed its air defense forces intercepted 71 Ukrainian drones overnight across six regions. The Kursk region, bordering Ukraine, saw the highest concentration, with 49 drones shot down.

Other drones were reportedly neutralized over the Bryansk, Vladimir, Oryol, Ryazan, and Tula regions.

Meanwhile, Ukraine’s air force confirmed that Russia launched five missiles and 75 attack drones in one night. Of those, 25 drones were destroyed and another 30 jammed by Ukrainian air defense systems.

As the conflict drags on, the toll on civilians continues to rise. Dnipro’s latest tragedy underscores the urgent need for a reinforced international response to stop the bloodshed and prevent further loss of life.
